W. Clement Stone, the man who made a fortune in insurance, lived to 100 and author of The Success System That Never Fails used to say:
“So, you’ve got a problem? That’s good!”
In other words, an opportunity has presented itself in your life to extract the seed of triumph. An opportunity to further refine your philosophy and principles. An opportunity to find more powerful actions. An opportunity to generate speed on your journey to wherever you want to go.
As an example, Paul Tudor Jones described in Market Wizards how he felt in 1979, around age 25, when he lost a bunch of money:
“I was totally demoralized. I said, ‘I am not cut out for this business; I don’t think I can hack it much longer.’ I was so depressed that I nearly quit.”
This was a phenomenal opportunity to upgrade your philosophy, principles, thoughts and actions.
This was an opportunity for growth. An opportunity for transformation, as within 8 years, he made 200% in 1987 and raked in an estimated $80 – 100 million dollars.
Two Types of Problems
There are conceptually two types of problems and challenges in life.
The problems associated with repeating mistakes of the past, with miscommunication among people, dealing with people who just don’t “get it.” Etc. These problems tend to seem to be draining, because you so want to be making progress for the future, rather than repeated the mistakes of the past. However, even in these types of problems, there is the seed of triumph to be extracted, as perhaps there is something you can do on your end, to prevent a re occurrence. Perhaps, with new knowledge, there is some system you can put in place that takes care of the problem. Perhaps with furthering your own massive success, you can develop the abundance to take care of these problems in style.
The other problems are associated with growth and achievement. You are taking on fresh challenges in life and are figuring out how to accomplish them. This causes a search for new knowledge and new actions. You make mistakes along the way, but these are just “interesting experiences,” as you extract the new insights, shrug them off and move on. This is where the real excitement of life comes into play. Where you set new goals from the current moment in your life that get you fired up.
Make no mistake about it – that is what life is a lot about – taking stock of where you currently are, and deciding where you would like to go from the current moment. What goals, what vision to target and then going after it. To achieve goal, after goal, after goal. To keep doing NEW things consistent with your life vision.
As Matt Furey said:
“Perfectly natural to go after things in life that are totally new to you. New experiences, new friends, new activities, new jobs, new places. New is fresh. New is enlivening and invigorating. There is nothing great about the same old, same old. Life is meant to be lived fully in the new now, not the old now, the NEW.”
So back to the point of “You’ve got a problem. That’s Good!”
Ok, so if the problem is good, then what do you do to solve it?
That is the key word: What do you DO?
Not what chants or affirmations can you make – What Can You DO?
Not that affirmations and quotes, etc, are not useful. They are and I have used them in various forms over the years and still use them. But the fastest possible transformation possible will come from the smart and bold actions that you take. The body and mind were meant to be in motion – in ACTION. Not just affirmations and meditation.
That is why I will introduce you to my simple 3 Step System for solving problems.
I have used this extensively over many years. First on a subconscious and intuitive level. Then, more recently I broke down what I was doing into a system, and I am now sharing it with you.
Here is the system:
1. Give
As they say, the hole you give through, is the whole you receive through. Show love to your fellow human being.
This is the giving / charity / philanthropy part.
How you decide to give is up to you!
You can give of your money. You can donate to church. You can feed a hungry family. You can send gifts to families. You can give out books to people. You can overtip hardworking and worthy people.
You can give of your time by listening to someone who who is looking for loving understanding. You can give words of praise.
Create your own list of ways that you would like to give. (this is a fun part!)
If I go a week without giving something, I kind of feel guilty.
Plan your weekly or even daily giving.
This giving helps you to feel that you are wealthy and full of abundance, rather than lack.

2. Invest in Yourself
If you have a problem, that probably means in order to overcome it, you must become something more. That should be taught more in schools, but it is not. That you should constantly be trying to be somebody greater in life.
As Jim Rohn said:
“You can have more than you’ve got because you can become more than you are.”
As a general rule, you can only implement and act upon what you KNOW. So you have to have a way to increase your KNOWING. Increasing your knowledge.
Part of this comes with experience and analyzing your days and weeks and months and extracting the insights.
But you can also quicken the process by reading about and analyzing the successes and failures of others, books, articles, videos, etc.
Seek Information and Knowledge.
All knowledge exists. It is all out there for you to discover, especially with the information explosion and mobile revolution that has occurred over the past decade.
The answers exist. The question then becomes: What are you desires? Can you raise your awareness of the problem, describe the problem, have the desire to seek a solution and act on that desire?
To find those goals, that vision, that not just gets you kind of excited – but that electrifies you! Super enthusiasm.
Those are the questions that most people face nowadays.
There is a special energy and magic that happens when you invest in yourself and take action, even if it is not the perfect and most powerful action yet. It is almost like you tell the universe: “I am now committed, and moving forward. Perhaps not in a straight line all the time, sometimes zig zagging to success, but I am moving forward.”
As Robert Ringer said in his book, Action:
“When you take action – particularly bold action – the atoms in your brain vibrate at enormously high rates of speed, which often results in amazing and otherwise unexplainable ‘coincidences’ happening in your life. I believe that the genius that erupts from action – as a result of one’s connection to the Cosmic Catalyst – produces a ‘telepathy’ that brings a person in contact with the people, things, and circumstances he needs to accomplish his objectives.”
For example, over the past month or two, I have bought 10-20 books.
I have only read four of them. So what, that I have not read the other ones? It still feels really good continuing the investment in myself.
One time a person asked me what book I was reading. I proceeded to tell them the 7 books I was reading. They were shocked.
Another person saw my library and book piles everywhere and commented on my love of learning. Some of them were purchased when I didn’t have much.
This is CAUSE, not effect.
It is a good idea to have some way to be exposed to new ideas that are relevant, powerful and truthful to your desired vision in life. Don’t just sit around waiting for them to fall into your lap.
Get a list of the top 6 problems, goals, challenges in your life and seek information. Seek knowledge. Create your own golden trading library.
As Warren Buffett said:
“The most important investment you can make is in yourself. Very few people get anything like their potential horsepower translated into the actual horsepower of their output in life. Potential exceeds realization for many people…. The best asset is your own self. You can become to an enormous degree the person you want to be.”
The average person does not invest in themselves. Do not invest in their health. Do not invest in their relationships. Do not invest in figuring out their finances and retirement. They do nothing and think of nothing special in particular. So they become nothing.
Do you want to become nothing? I don’t think so. So go invest in yourself in a smart and sustained way.
The best investment is in yourself, as you can enjoy the fruits of your success for years and decades to come!!!
The principle that you want to plan your investment in yourself, plan your own growth and transformation. Most people plan their vacations and their appliance purchases with greater thought and precision than they do their own personal growth and also that of their children.
There will be those that say they do not have the money to give or to invest in themselves.
Well, find the money from somewhere.
That’s what people do: They find the money to buy what they believe they need and must have.
Sort of like a family budget that is already strained, but someone gets sick or they take in an extra family member into their household. They figure out a way to make it work!!
Therefore, spend money on yourself. Invest money in yourself in a way that you deem to be smart.

3. Massive Action
Work. That’s right. You heard the word. Get to work. Start doing something.
That is what people do. They work. They wake up every day and go to work. Whether it is the teacher, the steelworker, the farmer, the insurance salesman, the trader, the mailman – they all go to work. Engage in daily labor.
Even traders that have automated systems have to go to work. To stay on top of things and make sure things are running smoothly. To better things, etc. Even people who are at Jim Simon’s hedge fund go to work! (The secret that Bruce Kovner shared is that when you are making money in trading, it doesn’t feel like work.)
In the vast majority of cases, there are things you should do, things you have to do, in order to arrive at a solution.
You must always do your part. Don’t expect to just read and chant affirmations and hope that things will turn out all rosy.
One time I had a very serious problem. I was exerting massive effort to figuring out what was wrong. Massive action. Lots of reading of books. Lots of taking down notes. Lots of asking people. It seemed as though I would never figure it out.
I told myself I had to stick with it! The power of resilience.
What ended up happening? Well, one day I was checking my email, and I received an invitation for a certain webinar. I watched the webinar, taking notes, and there were the insights I needed. It was like a miracle landed in my lap. The knowledge existed for years and years, and with my massive desire – IN ACTION, I finally found the right information and solved the problem.
Miracles are possible when you get to work, and at the end of the day gain new knowledge to be a bit smarter the next day. Do some self analysis at night.
Also, here is another secret: Don’t dissipate your energies and momentum by doing one tiny thing every month. Find a half dozen or a dozen powerful things to do, and do them all in the same month, in the same week, even in the same day if possible.
Almost every successful person has figured out that they do things that other people could do, just choose not to do. Other people are just not aware. They may lack knowledge. Lack desire. Most people only have a small bag of a dozen or so tricks, that they discover, develop and consistently use to great effect. It seemed hard in the beginning as they had to learn, mature, gain knowledge, etc. But after a while, they perfect their bag of tricks and just keep implementing the system.
Finally, keep track of your achievements, of your “wins” no matter how small. Everyone has some of these small wins in their life. Recognize that the process used to overcome those problems, is the similar process used to overcome the larger challenges!!!!
*Bonus* #4: Look for Unexpected Benefits and Miracles
Sometimes, when you solve a problem, you receive hidden benefits and miracles as well.
As an example, when I was overweight, both in the process of solving it and finally achieving the result of shedding all my excess weight, there were numerous side benefits that I couldn’t possibly have expected:
- I got to apply my “interpretation edge” I developed in trading to another area. I honed my success process even further.
- I didn’t just get healthier, I also attained some immunity to illness. So now I don’t get sick as often, and when I do, I recover much faster.
- My thinking started to improve even further. I was faster and sharper, able to find the right information faster, shed useless information and services, etc.
- And I have not even mentioned the benefits to my relationships in my life. I am certain that even more benefits will flow from this decision to solve this problem over many years and decades.
These were all unexpected benefits and miracles. I just wanted to lose the weight to feel better and have more energy!
Another time, years ago, I had a scare and thought I lost a bunch of data on my hard drive, etc. This was a problem. The solution was to get a better backup system in place, and also I discovered the Cloud Computing. So I put some of the data in the cloud, and, as an added benefit, the information is available around the world rather than just from one computer.
These were hidden, unexpected benefits and opportunities. These are EXCITING.
EVERYONE has some of this in their lives, if you just look carefully and think a little bit.
Therefore, realize that this solving of one problem, may provide benefits and miracles in other areas of your life. As there is a principle that “everything effects everything else.” Of course, some things are more important than others.
Joy
There is JOY in solving problems and challenges, especially when by solving them you pick up more speed and achievement. You figure out one thing, then one more piece, then one more piece. You elevate yourself to a higher plane of achievement, a higher level of understanding, awareness and consciousness. You start to have higher level challenges to solve.
What is a higher level challenge?
Well, when Soros scored a triple digit return year in 1980, his hedge fund rose in value from around $178 million to $380 million by the end of the year. That was a large amount of money back then. There are challenges with figuring out how to properly invest that kind of money and what to do with it.
That is a higher level, a high class sort of problem.
You solve the low class problems, while learning more and doing smarter and bolder actions, so you can get to the high class challenges, adventures, etc. That is how it usually works.
I have used this system quite recently for 2-3 smaller projects of mine. It worked every single time.
Now I am using it for a major project, and I expect it to work for this as well. I fully intend on using these three strategies for a very, very, very long time.
Anytime I don’t feel the success and money coming as fast or as much as I’d like to, I do the three things I talked about above:
Give
Invest in yourself
Massive Action and work furiously
I can assure you that 95% of people, the average person walking on the street, are NOT using all three of these principle. Hence the reason they are part of the 95%. Use these principles to supercharge your achievement in life. Use these three steps to get a miracle going in your life.
